5 ways your house help can help you become eco-friendly

You don't have to cramp your lifestyle, do what you can, and let someone you pay, do the rest!

Relax by the beach!

We all know that preserving the environment is important and our citizens of this earth, it’s our duty. But let’s face it. Most of us don’t have the time to invest in being green. It seems time consuming, can be messy, and in a way, not really fair! We are busy people. If we’re not lunching or shopping, we are working. Either at home with our kids, or at work and earning a living. It’s not like we have a lot of time to spare. Also, we finally have all the money in the world, and at last India has all the brands in the world. Really? Only consume what’s needed? Do we have to?

We feel you.

The answer is. No, not if you just can’t. You can stay carbon neutral by doing enough ‘green’ things, to balance with the ‘non-green’ things you feel you do.

Also, you don’t have to do it all by yourself. 90% of us have help in the house that we think are overpaid, and under utilized. Add a bit of green to their daily tasks, and you’re on the road to earning carbon credits quite quickly.

Here are five things your house help can do everyday to enjoy living an eco-friendly life:

  • Compost
  • Help you recycle (separate trash everyday, reuse, recycle and up-cycle – a small incentive of sharing the cash you earn, can make a huge difference here). To get started, you can wait for your local kabadi waala to drive by, or call KabadiExpress which currently operates in the NCR region.
  • Make chemical free cleaners and pesticides using common kitchen ingredients
  • Help your kids with their craft work using recycled material or or make eco-friendly decor for your next party! It’s really quite easy to do
  • Take the load off of you: up-cycle your old clothes and shoes, whether they use them or not, they probably know enough people who could! Here’s a quick list of Goonj drop off points (a national NGO) to get you started.

Easy, isn’t it?
